Move strengthens Alcatel's superior enterprise data and voice mobility offering
Paris, March 1, 2004- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today added next generation Wireless LAN products to its range of LAN switches and IP-PBXs to deliver the industry's most comprehensive, standards-based wired and wireless converged mobility solutions. Leveraging its leadership in IP telephony, data switches built for mobility and convergence, wireless technologies and communication applications, Alcatel delivers more services and capabilities on fewer platforms and fewer infrastructures to access business applications and resources from anywhere and at any time.
Alcatel's next-generation enterprise WLAN convergence offering is built upon proven technology and enables Alcatel to offer the industry's broadest and most secure enterprise mobility solution on the market today. It complements Alcatel's existing range of data and voice mobility offerings, which include wired dynamic and authenticated user mobility, voice-only digital wireless systems, and unified communications applications. This comprehensive range of mobile solutions allows Alcatel to meet the diverse needs of enterprises as they empower their mobile workforce.
"Integrating wireless into the enterprise network is a logical evolution of the converged communications infrastructure," says Chris Kozup, program director of technology research services with the META Group. "Enterprises require a wireless system that integrates seamlessly into the existing network and can deliver mission critical applications including voice over IP in a highly reliable, predictable and secure fashion."
Effective today, Alcatel is offering enterprises a comprehensive WLAN solution that delivers secure and mobile network access. These new Alcatel products include OmniAccess 1200 Access Points and OmniAccess 4000 wireless LAN switches and appliances. This OmniAccess Wireless LAN product family provides the industry's most up-to-date platform for voice over WLAN and other real-time applications and services. It ships immediately with today's leading-edge security standards and is 802.11i-ready for next generation wireless security support. Coupled with the OmniSwitch family's reputation for its value leadership in highly-available, secure, and easily managed networks, it redefines the next-generation enterprise network infrastructure.
Further supporting its WLAN convergence offering, Alcatel is announcing its Mobile IP Touch 300 and 600 wireless phones. Designed to meet the communication needs of enterprises of any size and across a range of vertical markets, the Alcatel Mobile IP Touch telephones act as extensions of the Alcatel OmniPCX family of IP-PBXs to provide access to enterprise-class communication features and services. They utilize the IEEE 802.11b global standard to operate as client devices on wireless LANs, allowing converged mobile voice and data applications on a single wireless infrastructure. Alcatel Mobile IP Touch phones complement Alcatel's wide range of voice mobility solutions allowing enterprises to choose the solution that best fits their needs.
"Alcatel WLAN strategy is the next building block in delivering the industry's most comprehensive enterprise convergence offering," said Jean-Christophe Giroux, President of Alcatel's Enterprise Solutions Activities.
