Alcatel provides Telefonica Móviles/Movistar a Personalized Ring Back Tone service solution

Quito, Ecuador, August 15, 2006.- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) announces today that it has been selected by Telefonica Móviles/Movistar to launch Ecuador's first Personalized Ring Back Tone (PRBT) service. The "Entre Tonos" service ("in between call") will enable Movistar's users to replace their traditional ring tone with customized and easy-to-change music and tones. This exclusive, ground breaking innovation is a big step forward for Latin American mobile telephony.

With the "Entre Tonos" service, Movistar customers will be able to select their favorite tones from an extensive catalogue of musical options, including the most popular hits. The service allows customers to transform their routine ring back tone into a fun and enjoyable experience for listeners. It works on all models of Movistar GSM mobile phones. Every time users, irrespective of their own mobile operator, try to call a Movistar phone, they will hear a melody or song in place of the traditional ring back tone usually heard before a call is answered. This will be at no cost to the caller until the recipient answers the call.

Intuitive interfaces in the Alcatel solution make it easy for users to self-subscribe to the service and to select the tone of the PRBT, giving subscribers the freedom and flexibility to change it at any time. In addition, the subscriber can also assign a different personalized tone per caller or group of callers. Subscribers can even allocate special sounds to callers for important days such as birthdays, parties, or holidays.

"Alcatel is proud to have been selected by Telefonica Móviles as strategic partner in the launch of this new innovative service in Latin America," stated Alfredo Redondo, Alcatel's President for Iberia and Latin America. "The multiple functionalities of Alcatel's PRBT solution, coupled with our integration and maintenance capabilities, will enable the operator to attract new subscribers, while continuing to create extra revenue from existing users."

With this new service launch, Alcatel confirms its growing momentum in the Latin American mobile market. More than 20 operators have already entrusted Alcatel with the development and implementation of this service.
