Paris, May 31, 2005 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that it has been awarded a 30.9 million Euros contract by the Spanish Transport Ministry to improve capacity as well as safety and security on a section of the Tarragona-Barcelona-France railway line.
Alcatel will provide a turnkey solution for the 65 Km-long La Sagrera-Massanet double track section, including the design, equipment provision, installation and commissioning of new train routing solutions and modern communication systems.
Alcatel will deploy eight Alcatel 6151 LockTrac/INTERSIG L905 E electronic interlocking as well as a two-way Automatic Block system. The completion of the project will enhance the safety and quality of the current installations and will notably increase the operational capacity of the line. Alcatel will also install field equipment such as signals, point machines Alcatel 6206 FieldTrack, Automatic Train Protection, high frequency track circuits without isolating joints, power supply systems, cabling and will undertake the associated civil works.
Alcatel will also deploy an optical transport network based on its data-aware Optical Multi-Service Node (OMSN) systems that will enable enhanced communications to optimize the efficiency of the telecontrol of the signalling operations, the automatic telephony and the block information exchanges between railway stations.
