Paris, December 3, 2004 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that it has been awarded a contract to deploy and maintain the signaling system with electronic interlocking and automatic train protection systems, as well as the fixed and mobile GSM-R telecommunications system for the 155 Km long Córdoba-Málaga high-speed line.
The contract, valued at Euro 210 million, was awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Development, through GIF (Gestor de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias), to the consortium formed by Alcatel (70%) and Dimetronic (30%).
Alcatel will supply its modular Alcatel 6151 LockTrac (L90 5) electronic interlocking system for reliable and safe train routing, as well as power supply systems, several detection systems and buildings to house the technical equipment.
Alcatel will also be in charge of the design, build-out and installation of the state-of-the-art optical transport network, which will be based on its Optical Multi-Service Node (OMSN) systems equipped with Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet functionality. Designed to carry a wide range of services - including voice, video and data, the backbone will provide connectivity between all the rail line installations for reliable and highly efficient communications.
