Alcatel's Digital Home Care Solution wins IEC InfoVision Award

Paris, October 10, 2006 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced its Digital Home Care Solution (DHCS) has received an InfoVision award from the International Engineering Consortium (IEC). Announced at Broadband World Forum Paris 2006, Alcatel was recognized in the "Network and Services Management and Operations" category.

With triple play, service providers are faced with an array of devices, applications and services that create a complex consumer environment. To succeed, service providers need to deliver superior quality of service and shield their customers from the technical complexities of digital home networks and services. Alcatel DHCS is a unique, tightly integrated solution that facilitates and automates digital home operational processes including device installation, service activation, customer support interactions, and troubleshooting operations.

"By combining a high-quality solution, excellent attention to customer requirements and superb marketing, Alcatel is a leader in the telecommunications market for incumbent and competitive service providers who are investing in triple play service deployment and looking to set up a full management environment for the digital home," said said Dirk Van den Berghen, President of Alcatel's access networks activities.

"The InfoVision Award program recognizes technologies, applications, products, advances, and services judged to be the most unique and beneficial to the telecommunications industry," noted IEC Content Director, Tom Costello. "We had many excellent candidates this year making the selection process very difficult."

The finalists of the 2006 InfoVision Awards were judged according six criteria, including: value of service or technology (in solving recognized technology problems, meeting network requirements, optimizing service and performance, and/or enhancing customer service), overall quality of innovation and contribution to technology advancement, originality and vision, potential contribution toward positive industry growth and service, market success/acceptance and contribution to end-user quality of experience and service efficiency.

Visit Alcatel during the Broadband World Forum Paris 2006, being held at CNIT La Defense from 9-12 October, to see demonstrations of our award-winning DHCS application - a suite of integrated modules, addressing home network management, access loop quality management and customer support interaction. The modules include:

  • A multi-vendor remote management application that eases and automates the management of home devices. The module is based on the DSL Forum TR-069 standard and uses a pro-active management engine that increases process automation in order for service providers to address the home device mass management challenge.
  • A DSL access loop quality management application that enables service providers to quickly resolve problems and meet their customers' specific quality of service requirements. With this service-aware application, customer support staff can easily perform line qualification, problem diagnosis and troubleshooting operations.
  • Advanced service management technology that enables service providers to automate the installation, configuration, repair and update of voice, video and data services – driving down the cost and complexity of management processes, and accelerating new service time-to-market.
